Nigerian singer Da Chris explores faith, gratitude and the journey from hardship to success on his latest single, “Dodo.”
The record draws from indigenous highlife, using its traditional rhythmic character as the foundation for a song about giving thanks to God for personal progress. “Dodo” reflects on the distance between difficult beginnings and the circumstances that follow when things begin to change.
At the centre of the song is gratitude. Rather than presenting success solely as a personal achievement, Da Chris frames it through his faith, acknowledging God as part of the journey and expressing appreciation for how far he has come.
“Dodo” adds a reflective dimension to Da Chris’s catalogue while maintaining a connection to the indigenous sounds that inform his musical identity.
Da Chris, whose real name is Daniel Christian, is a Nigerian singer from Rivers State. According to his press kit, his involvement in music began at a young age, initially through the brigade drum in 2010, before he developed his vocal and songwriting abilities.
He later began pursuing music professionally, releasing his debut record “Loli,” featuring Dizzy, in 2020. The press kit describes the release as an early step in his professional career before his subsequent work with London Boyz.
His music has incorporated African drums, acoustic guitar, saxophone and piano, reflecting his interest in combining traditional African instrumentation with contemporary production.
