UK-based Nigerian artist DRAY, also known as Dr. Ayotunde Dawodu, has released his latest single, “African Girl,” a track that celebrates the beauty, confidence, and intelligence of African women.
Blending Afro-rap, Afrobeats, and Amapiano influences, the song combines energetic rhythms with lyrics that challenge stereotypes and highlight the achievements and individuality of modern African women.
Speaking about the inspiration behind the record, DRAY said he wanted to create a tribute to African women that recognizes both their ambition and cultural identity while expanding conventional ideas of beauty and success.

Outside music, DRAY is a Senior Lecturer in Building Engineering at the University of Greenwich. Holding a PhD in Energy Technologies and Sustainable Development, he has authored three books and more than 40 academic publications. His unique combination of academic and creative pursuits has earned him the nickname “The Vain Professor.”
“African Girl” serves as the lead single from DRAY’s forthcoming EP, scheduled for release later this month ahead of his debut album, Crossroads, which is expected in 2027.
