American artist jcSubterfuge has released a new single “Obsession” loosely based on his experience with a fan who frequently tried to communicate with him on social media and even showed up at his shows with strange gifts for him.
“Please understand that I am extremely happy if even one person likes one of my tracks but calling me their babe on Social Media, etc. on a daily basis is a bit creepy,” jcSubterfuge explains.
“Needless to say I had to politely ask her to stop and you can hear my interpretation of how the conversation went about 2 minutes, 55 seconds into the track.”
“Obsession” opens with a hypnotic, pulsating bassline that immediately draws the listener in. The signature breakbeats of jungle and drum and bass kick in, creating a powerful, high-octane rhythm that is both exhilarating and impossible not to dance to.
”I wanted to create something that pushed the boundaries of what people expect from electronic music,” says the Detroit-born artist . “’Obsession’ is about the feeling of being completely consumed by something or someone, and I tried to translate that intensity into the music. The combination of jungle, drum and bass, and pop felt like the perfect way to express that chaotic yet beautiful feeling.”
