    El Drez taps Masterkraft for new single “We Outside” featuring Lavien and Jassmine

    Liberian artist El Drez has released “We Outside”, a new single featuring Lavien and Jassmine, with Nigerian producer Masterkraft handling production.

    Released on August 16, the track is described as an Afrobeat record that brings together artists from Liberia and Nigeria. Masterkraft’s production places the collaboration within the wider West African pop sound, while El Drez, Lavien and Jassmine share the vocal duties.

    “We Outside” follows several releases from El Drez over the past three years, including “Hosanna”, which was produced by KrizBeats Worldwide Wav.

    The collaboration with Masterkraft adds a Nigerian production presence to the Liberian artist’s catalogue, continuing El Drez’s work across West African music.

    El Drez is based in Liberia and releases music through Relumae Records.

    ODUMODUBLVCK’s lawyers say rapper is not wanted by police, seek inquiry into attempted arrest

    ODUMODUBLVCK’s legal representatives have said the rapper is not wanted by the Nigeria Police Force and has no outstanding arrest warrant, following an attempted arrest in Lagos on August 29.

    In a statement dated August 31, the lawyers representing Tochukwu Gbubemi Ojogwu, known professionally as Odumodublvck, said the rapper has not evaded or resisted any lawful process and has responded to legitimate police invitations through his legal team.

    According to the statement, the matter that allegedly led to the attempted arrest is already being handled by the Inspector General of Police’s Monitoring Unit and is also before an Abuja Magistrate Court.

    The legal team argued that because the matter is pending before the court, it should not have resulted in a separate invitation or attempted arrest by another police command.

    They said a formal response addressing what they described as a duplication of investigative activity across multiple police commands has been sent to the Assistant Commissioner of Police, State Criminal Investigation Department, Lagos State Police Command, with a copy sent to the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 2.

    The lawyers have also requested an urgent inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the events of August 29.

    The statement further said Odumodublvck continues to cooperate with the appropriate authorities through his legal representatives and remains committed to due process.

    The legal team urged the public and media to disregard speculation about the matter and rely on verified statements from his representatives.

    The statement was signed by Adokiye, legal representative to Tochukwu Gbubemi Ojogwu.

    Lagos-based Afro-Fusion artist Gidixol has released “Case Closed”, the second track from his debut double single with “Sativa”, shifting his focus from relationship dynamics to social issues affecting everyday people.

    Released on August 28 via EL-GENG MUSIC, “Case Closed” addresses injustice, economic hardship and unanswered questions, questioning the idea that difficult problems become resolved simply because they have been declared “closed.”

    The song takes an everyday Nigerian perspective, with Gidixol using conversational storytelling to examine the consequences of leaving social problems unresolved. Its subject matter also touches on accountability and the responsibilities of individuals and communities when faced with issues that continue to affect them.

    “Case Closed” forms the more reflective half of Gidixol’s debut double single. While “Sativa” approaches relationships through humour and rhythm, the new track turns toward broader social realities.

    Ramiro Naka revisits Guinean classic “Nha Indimigo” with Patche di Rima

    Guinea-Bissau singer Ramiro Naka has released “Nha Indimigo”, a new version of the Guinean classic featuring Patche di Rima.

    Released on August 14, the track draws from the traditional Goumbé sound of Guinea-Bissau while incorporating a contemporary production. Fred Laser produced and arranged the new version.

    Naka’s career is closely associated with Goumbé music and the wider Lusophone African music scene. Born in Guinea-Bissau, he began performing with groups including Cobiana Jazz and Nkassa Cobra before developing an international career in Lisbon and Paris.

    His work has also extended beyond music. Naka appeared as the lead actor in Flora Gomes’ Po di Sangui, which was selected for the 1996 Cannes Film Festival.

    In 2025, Naka returned to recorded music with “Tchon Tchoma”, a collaboration with Tabanka Djaz that received radio play across Guinea-Bissau, Angola, Portugal, Cape Verde and France.

    LODIC has released “reflection”, his 10th release, moving into darker electronic territory while exploring themes of obsession, identity and attachment.

    Released on August 12, the track centres on a narrator who becomes increasingly unable to separate himself from the object of his fixation. The idea of a reflection functions as both a literal image and a metaphor for an internal presence that becomes difficult to escape.

    “I followed my reflection / until I couldn’t walk away / I followed my reflection / knowing I shouldn’t have stayed,” LODIC sings.

    The production takes a darker and more atmospheric approach than the artist’s earlier electronic material, while melodic hooks remain central to the arrangement. The track moves between contrasting emotional states, including melancholy and euphoria, as the narrator confronts the relationship between attraction, identity and self-destruction.

    The Afro-Fusion track combines elements of Amapiano, Afrobeats and Afro Soul with conversational songwriting centred on a familiar relationship question: whether someone you’re interested in is already involved with someone else.

    Rather than approaching the situation through confrontation, Gidixol uses humour and everyday African storytelling to explore the uncertainty around pursuing someone whose relationship status is unclear. The song’s rhythmic production gives the subject a lighter setting while its lyrics deal with awareness, honesty and personal choices.

    “Sativa” is paired with “Case Closed”, a more reflective track addressing issues including economic hardship, unresolved problems and accountability from an everyday Nigerian perspective.

    Together, the two songs introduce Gidixol’s approach to Afro-Fusion, which draws on African pop rhythms and contemporary production while focusing on relationships and everyday experiences.
