Sierra Leonean artist Lil_P has released a new single, “Stay the Night”, a melodic Afropop track centred on the feeling of wanting a night with someone special to last a little longer.
The Nashville-based artist leans into warm vocals and a laid-back rhythmic arrangement, with the song’s lyrics touching on late-night drives, dancing until sunrise and spending time with someone without putting pressure on the moment.
“Stay the Night” sits between Afropop and contemporary African pop, with soulful melodic elements shaping its romantic tone. Rather than focusing on a complicated love story, the song stays with the simplicity of enjoying someone’s company and the anticipation that comes with a new connection.
Lil_P, who is originally from Sierra Leone, draws from Afropop and contemporary African sounds while incorporating influences from his experiences living in the United States.
“Stay the Night” is available on streaming platforms.
