The song is primarily in English, with a small Polish touch that adds a unique flavor. Most importantly, Melaya wrote the entire lyrics, melody, and vocal line herself, proving her skills as both a vocalist and songwriter.
A deeply personal and sonically diverse project, the EP captures her journey of resilience, growth, and artistic evolution.
MZEAL credits her producer, WALITALI, as a key contributor to the project, highlighting his ability to bring her ideas to life.
âHe understood my sound and helped shape it in the best way possible,â she shares. âWe worked together on several tracks, and it was an incredible experience. He knew exactly how to translate my vision into music with the right instrumentals.â
Beyond working with WALITALI, MZEAL also played a direct role in the production, contributing to several tracks. âI was heavily involved in making sure every sound reflected my vision.â
Diary of a Wild Flower is more than just musicâitâs a reflection of MZEALâs personal and professional journey. Having spent nine years navigating the industry on her own, she has faced and overcome countless challenges.
âThis EP isnât just about musicâitâs about survival, reinvention, and self-discovery,â she explains. âI didnât always take the right path, but I learned from every mistake, and that growth is in the music.â
A key part of her evolution is her growth as a songwriter. Every song on the EP was written by MZEAL, showcasing her ability to tell her own story in a deeply personal way. âThis project reflects not just my life but also my development as a songwriter. My pen game has evolved, and this EP is proof of that.â
Her environment, background, and struggles have all shaped the EPâs narrative. As a young woman in the Nigerian music industry, she has had to fight harder to carve her space. âLife isnât always fair, especially for young women in this industry, but I want people to hear my story and see themselves in it.â Sonically, Diary of a Wild Flower is a fusion of genres that showcases MZEALâs artistic evolution. While rooted in Afrobeats, the project expands into Afro-house, Afro-R&B, Afropop, and Afro-dancehall influences.
The recording process was organic, taking place in a variety of settingsâfrom intimate solo sessions in her bedroom to larger collaborative sessions with musicians. âThe music flowed naturally. I recorded many tracks, but in the end, I carefully selected the ones that best represented my vision.â
Several tracks in Diary of a Wild Flowerreflect MZEALâs journey, struggles, and triumphs:
âThese three songs best represent Diary of a Wild Flower because they tell my story,â MZEAL explains. âIhe Kwuru Nnemâ is about overcoming obstacles and making my family proud, even though I once ignored good advice. âLiquorâ is about stepping into greatness, and âCold Lieâ is about how long Iâve been on this journey, holding on to my vision despite the setbacks.
This EP is me unveiling my true self to the world.â
While her previously released track âDealerâ is not officially part of the EP, it remains deeply connected to the Wild Flower story.
âEven though itâs not on the tracklist, âDealerâ is still a part of this journey.â
