Cherim has released “Batraz,” a track from the album Ğymaq, released through Ored Recordings.
“Batraz” is built entirely from vocal recordings by Ramazan Daur, Kazbek Nagaroko, and Tizhin Gup, originally featured on “Shopsh: Circassian Vocal Tradition of Zhiu”. The track draws on Circassian vocal traditions and reworks archival material through sampling and experimental production techniques.
The song forms part of Ğymaq, an album constructed from recordings previously released by Ored Recordings. Across the project, traditional Circassian singing, shichepshin (violin) melodies, pkhachich (percussion), and archival recordings are transformed through ambient textures, layered processing, and electronic manipulation. The album centers on themes of culture, tradition, home, language, and memory.
The title Ğymaq translates as “Cry.” According to Cherim, the project reflects on experiences of life in the Republic of Adygea, as well as memories of family, friends, music, and language. Each track is created using material drawn from different recordings in the Ored Recordings catalog.
“Batraz” and the album Ğymaq by Cherim are available on m streaming platforms.
