British-Nigerian rapper Dave spoke about Nigeria’s challenges during his first headline concert in the country, acknowledging the difficulties faced by its people and thanking fans for attending the show.

Born David Orobosa Michael Omoregie in Brixton, South London, to Nigerian parents, the rapper has described the Lagos concerts as a homecoming.

“Nigeria is a place that is very close to my heart. A country that has faced so many hardships. A country that’s been divided every single day,” he told the audience.

Dave also referred to the pressure Nigerians face from the government and recognised that attending the concert had not necessarily been an easy decision for everyone.

“I know that it was not easy for anyone that made the decision to be here, but I appreciate you guys. It means everything to me,” he said.

The speech came during the first of three Nigerian dates on Dave’s The Boy Who Played the Harp Tour, marking his first headline concerts in the country.
