Omar Jatta explores cultural identity, pride and freedom of expression on his new Afro House single “Alingandong.” The track calls on listeners to embrace where they come from while bringing together elements of Jatta’s Gambian and Senegalese roots with his experiences growing up in Germany and France.
Driven by an Afro House rhythm, “Alingandong” combines singing and rapping with a recurring “Alingandong! Let’s dance” refrain. The song reflects Jatta’s wider approach to music, which connects different roots, languages and lived experiences.
Jatta was born in Versailles and is part of the African diaspora, with his background spanning Gambia, Senegal, Germany and France. Since 2024, he has performed with his live band Where I’m From, a group of friends and artists whose work explores culture, home and different perspectives on belonging.
His recent career includes being named TuneCore’s Artist of the Year in 2023 and performing at Summerjam’s Greenstage in 2024 and 2025. In 2026, he received funding from Initiative Musik. He has also performed at Cosmo Festival and the Over-the-Border Festival in Bonn, alongside releases across two EPs.
On “Alingandong,” Jatta says: “My roots are also reflected in the sounds and languages I use once again. I am not a freedom fighter, but I am someone who has something to say. Our people should learn again to be proud of where they come from.”
“Alingandong” is the latest release ahead of Jatta’s forthcoming album, due October 2, 2026.
