Nigerian recording artist Vas Dei has released “Ewo,” an Afrobeats and Afro Hip-Hop single that reflects on political corruption, insecurity, and economic hardship in contemporary Nigeria.
The title, Ewo, is an Igbo expression often used to convey pain or sorrow, setting the tone for a song that gives voice to the frustrations and resilience of many Nigerians. Built around hard-hitting rap production, the track pairs socially conscious lyricism with melodic elements, balancing sharp commentary with an underlying message of hope.
One of the song’s defining features is its use of a sample from a well-known Nollywood film. Reimagined within the production, the familiar cultural reference reinforces the track’s themes while connecting contemporary social commentary with a moment many Nigerian audiences will recognize.
“Ewo” also features verses from Mun The Shinobi, while Logik Tha Pro contributes both as a featured artist and co-producer, in addition to handling the mix. The collaboration developed organically, with each artist adding a distinct perspective to the record.
Based in Kaduna State, Vas Dei is known for blending Afrobeats, Afro-fusion, and Hip-Hop influences in music that explores faith, resilience, and the lived experiences of everyday Nigerians.
