Marco Mento Blends Amapiano and House Influences on New Single ‘Monopoly’

Producer and musician Marco Mento has released a new single, “Monopoly”, a track that combines Amapiano, Afrobeats, house, and electronic music influences.

Built around dance-driven percussion and electronic production, the song takes its title from the popular board game “Monopoly”. According to Mento, the track was inspired by themes of ownership, power, and economic imbalance, using the game as a metaphor for modern society.

While rooted in club-oriented rhythms, “Monopoly” incorporates elements commonly associated with contemporary African dance music, particularly Amapiano, alongside house grooves and electronic textures. The result is a cross-genre production that reflects the increasingly global nature of dance music.

Mento describes the song as an attempt to balance entertainment with social commentary, exploring ideas around wealth concentration and the pressures faced by ordinary people in today’s economy.

Born in Switzerland to an Italian family and currently based in Brooklyn, New York, Mento is known for drawing from a wide range of musical influences, including Afro-Caribbean rhythms, hip-hop, Latin music, funk, and Afrobeats. He is also a member of the band Afro Dominicano and has collaborated with artists including Andra Day and Traum Diggs.
