    The Headies has updated its Best Male Artiste nominees to include Davido.

    The previous list featured Adekunle Gold, Asake, FOLA, Mavo, Rema, Wizkid and Burna Boy. Davido now appears at the top of the updated list.

    The change comes on the same day The Headies updated its Song of the Year nominees to include Olamide’s “99” featuring Young Jonn, Asake, Seyi Vibez and Daecolm.

    The Headies has updated its Song of the Year nominees to include Olamide’s “99” featuring Young Jonn, Asake, Seyi Vibez and Daecolm.

    The previous list featured Kunmie’s “Arike”, Poco Lee, Shoday and Rahman Jago’s “Hey Jago”, Ayra Starr’s “Hot Body”, FIDO’s “Joy Is Coming”, Wizkid’s “MMS” and Davido and Omah Lay’s “With You”.

    The update brings the category to eight nominees and comes alongside changes to other categories, including Best Male Artiste.

    Wizkid, Mavo, Ayra Starr and others nominated for the 2026 headies

    The Headies has unveiled the nominees for its 18th edition, with Wizkid, Ayra Starr, Mavo, Davido, Burna Boy, Asake and several of Nigeria’s leading artists featuring across the categories.

    The nominations were announced on Tuesday, August 25, ahead of the ceremony, which will take place on October 25 in Toronto, Canada. The 18th edition is themed “Africa to the World,” marking another international outing for the Nigerian music awards.

    Wizkid is among the most nominated artists this year, picking up six nominations. His 2024 album Morayo is in contention for Afrobeats Album of the Year, while he is also nominated for Digital Artiste of the Year, Best Male Artiste and Headies’ Viewers’ Choice. His collaborations with Asake on “MMS” and “Jogodo” are nominated for Song of the Year and Afrobeats Single of the Year respectively.

    Ayra Starr has five nominations, including Song of the Year for “Hot Body”, Digital Artiste of the Year, Best Female Artiste, Best Performer (Live) for her Global Citizen Festival 2025 performance, and Headies’ Viewers’ Choice.

    The nominations also give significant recognition to Mavo, who is shortlisted for Next Rated alongside Fido, Fola, Llona and Shoday. He is also nominated for Digital Artiste of the Year and Best Male Artiste.

    Fola is another prominent name among the emerging acts, earning nominations for Next Rated, Digital Artiste of the Year, Best Male Artiste, Best R&B Album for Catharsis, and categories recognising his songs “You” and “Who Does That?”.

    Elsewhere, Davido and Omah Lay’s “With You” is nominated for Song of the Year, Afrobeats Single of the Year and Best Recording of the Year, while Burna Boy’s No Sign of Weakness competes for Afrobeats Album of the Year. Burna Boy is also nominated for Best Male Artiste, with “Bundle by Bundle” receiving an Afrobeats Single of the Year nomination.

    The Song of the Year category brings together Kunmie’s “Arike”, “Hey Jago” by Poco Lee, Shoday and Rahman Jago, Ayra Starr’s “Hot Body”, Fido’s “Joy Is Coming”, Asake and Wizkid’s “MMS”, and Davido and Omah Lay’s “With You”.

    For Afrobeats Single of the Year, the nominees are Rema’s “Fun”, Asake and Wizkid’s “Jogodo”, Shallipopi’s “Laho”, Davido and Omah Lay’s “With You”, Fola’s “You”, and Burna Boy’s “Bundle by Bundle”.

    The 2026 nominations follow an eligibility period covering music released between August 1, 2024 and April 30, 2026.

    The 18th Headies will hold on October 25, 2026, in Toronto, Canada.

    The nominees for the 2026 American Music Awards have been announced with Burna Boy, Wizkid, Tyla, Rema and MOLIY scoring nominations.

    Tyla is the most nominated Afrobeats artist this year. She’s up four awards including Best Afrobeats Artist, Best Social Song of the Year and Best Music Video of the Year both for “Chanel” and Best R& B Female Artist. 

    Burna Boy has two nominations including Best Afrobeats Artist and Best Hip Hop Song for his contribution to Gunna’s “wgft”

    Nigerian-American artist Shaboozey is also nominated in three categories including Collaboration of the Year, Best Male Country Artist and Best Country Song for “Goodnews”

    The 52nd American Music Awards will take place on Monday, May 25th in Las Vegas.

    Burna Boy’s No Sign of Weakness is up for the Best Global Music Award along with Youssou N’Dour’s World and The Eclairer le monde : Light the Mind Explosion (50th Anniversary Tour Live) album by Shakti

    While the nominees for Best African Music Performance include Davido, Tyla, Ayra Starr and Uganda’s Eddy Kenzo

    While African music icon Angélique Kidjo leads the nominations for Global Music Performance 

    The 2026 Grammy Awards will place Sunday, February 1, 2026 at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.

    Twicy Wins Two Awards at the 2024 Central Music Awards 

    Ghanaian Afrobeats artist Twicy won two awards at the 2024 Central Music Awards, topping off an impressive year. 

    The “Live it Up” singer was named Artist of the Year and Male Vocalist of the Year at the ceremony which was held Friday, November 29th in the Ghanaian city of Cape Coast. 

    Twicy was nominated in an impressive eight categories including Songwriter of the Year, Video of the Year. 

    This caps an impressive year which saw the rising star take over the airwaves in Nigeria, Ghana and the UK with two hit songs “Lotto” and “Live it Up”

    Shortly after the release of his debut album Far Away, the singer went on a media tour in Lagos, the entertainment capital of Africa where he had a growing fanbase.

    He opened up about his life and career during interviews with some of the country’s most popular media personalities including Osi Suave at the Beat FM, and Melissa at Vybz FM.

    He also appeared on Silverbird TV, Soundcity Radio and ESplash on TVC.

    The award-winning singer has also been praised for his performance of “Live it Up” on the Glitch Africa stage.

    With such an impressive outing in 2024, the singer is no doubt poised to extend his lead as one of the most talented emerging artists in the Afrobeats scene.

    Burna Boy, Rema, Asake , Tyla and other African artists scored nominations in different categories at the 2024 Brit Awards.

    Grammy winner Burna Boy and first-time Grammy nominee Asake, are up for the International Artist of the Year Award.

    Other big names in the category include Taylor Swift, Sza, Miley Cyrus, Olivia Rodrigo and Kylie Minogue.

    As for the Prince of Afrobeats, Rema, he’ll be hoping to beat mega stars like Billie Eilish, Doja Cat and Olivia Rodrigo to win the Song of the Year award for his global hit “Calm Down”

    He’ll also be up against relatively new cats Tyla and Libianca.

    21-year-old South African Tyla, was unsurprisingly nominated for her global hit “Water” while Libianca was nominated for, you guessed it “People”

    While the British rapper Little Simz clenched three nods at this year’s edition of the UK’s biggest music award: Artist of the Year, Grime/Hip Hop/Rap Artist of the year and Album of the Year for her album “No Thank You”,

    The 2024 Brits Awards will air on Sat 2 March on ITV1 and ITVX.

    Dua Lipa, who’s nominated in three categories, is the only artist who’s so far been has been confirmed to perform at the event .

    In the same vein, a host for the has not been announced for the ceremony which was anchored by Mo Gillian hosted in 2023, with Jack Whitehall in 2022.
