Memphis-based Afrobeats artist Ala Nkolika has released a new single, “Breaking All the Rules,” a record that combines Afrobeats with influences from the city’s musical heritage.
According to the artist, the song playfully explores the idea of a confident woman embracing the role of a “sugar mama,” using the concept to challenge traditional expectations around relationships, independence, and self-confidence.
Born in Memphis with family roots in Anambra State, Nigeria, Ala Nkolika blends African rhythms with Southern musical influences, bringing both backgrounds into her sound.
