BOYRECK and the quiet build of an Afro-fusion sound

BOYRECK (born Shobogun Okikiola Yusuf) is gradually shaping a sound that sits between Afrobeats, R&B, and Neo soul, an approach that feels more exploratory than defined.

Raised between Ibadan and Abeokuta, the Nigerian singer and songwriter did not come from a musical background but found an early pull toward music that eventually became a long term focus. Like many artists of his generation, his entry point was not straightforward. It began in secondary school, where he first gravitated toward rap and developed an interest in songwriting.

Influenced early on by Nigerian rap icon Olamide, BOYRECK began experimenting with writing and recording as he worked to refine his voice. Over time, that early rap influence slowly expanded into something broader, less genre bound, more melodic, and increasingly shaped by emotional delivery.

Rather than a sudden emergence, his progression has been steady. From early recording sessions to developing vocal control and structure, BOYRECK has spent the last few years finding a balance between instinct and intention in his sound.

As his catalogue continues to grow, there is a clear sense of direction forming around his music. It does not rely on dramatic shifts or reinvention, but on gradual refinement and consistency. BOYRECK’s strength so far lies in that slow build, an artist still early in his journey but already showing signs of a defined artistic identity taking shape.
