South African singer Tyla has reflected on her career and experiences in her 20s in a post shared on her Instagram Story, listing milestones she hopes to tell her future children about.
“Me telling my kids one day that when I was in my 20s, I became a pop star,” she wrote, before listing experiences that included leaving Africa, travelling the world, winning two awards, performing at the World Cup and wearing Victoria’s Secret Angel wings.
She also referenced the global popularity of her song “Water,” the Bacardi dance trend associated with her music, and taking over a theme park. She ended the post with the message: “Do whatever will make 80 year old you smirk.”
Tyla also reposted a fan’s reel of her singing, which carried the caption, “Tyla can’t sing my 🍑ass.”
The repost came alongside her reflection on the milestones she has reached since breaking into the international music scene.
Tyla rose to wider international recognition with “Water” in 2023. The song earned her the first Grammy Award for Best African Music Performance in 2024.
