Eylsia Nicolas, the stage name of Lisa Pamintuan, has released “We Outshine,” a song inspired by her personal experiences with isolation, recovery and finding a sense of belonging.
The song will premiere at a private We Shine film festival event in Fort Lauderdale, created by Nicolas’ longtime friend Bobby Blair. Nicolas and Blair met as teenagers while attending a tennis academy and remained friends over the years.
Nicolas’ background includes competitive tennis, work in business and law, and a period in Hollywood before she later turned to music. She said her experiences with institutionalisation and rehabilitation influenced the themes explored in “We Shine.”
Rather than focusing on one specific community, Nicolas describes the song as being about people who have experienced feeling different, isolated, ashamed or afraid, and the process of reclaiming their voice and place in the world.
